Arsenal vs Liverpool Predictions
Liverpool failed to win five of their opening seven Premier League games.
Arsenal have made the strongest start to a PL season by any side since Liverpool’s 2019/20 title winners.
Arsenal have lost their last four league games against Liverpool, but have never lost five consecutively.
Arsenal are enjoying a seven-game winning run of PL home games.
Arsenal are gunning for a sustained title challenge
After winning seven of their opening eight Premier League (PL) games, Arsenal have made the strongest start to a top-flight season by any side since Liverpool won each of the opening eight en route to winning the title back in 2019/20.
Those dreams still seem very far away for the Gunners with Erling Haaland pulling up trees for Manchester City, but a victory over a stuttering Liverpool side will certainly breed confidence amongst the Gunners faithful that a sustained assault at the peak of the table is a possibility.
A 3-1 win in the North London derby last time out extended Arsenal’s run of PL games without a clean sheet to 13, suggesting that they may need to dig deep and grab a handful of goals if they are to get the better of this highly talented Liverpool side.
Liverpool have a case of the hic-Klopps
Whilst a convincing win over Rangers in midweek Champions League action helped Liverpool to a commanding lead in their group, attentions swiftly turn back to their faltering PL campaign in which they’ve won just two of the opening seven games (W2, D4, L1).
This is now Liverpool’s worst seven-game start to a PL season since picking up the same amount in 2014/15. The Reds ended up finishing sixth in that season in what was Brendan Rodgers’ last season before the arrival of Klopp… The Klopp era is in a mature stage now though, with the German finding it hard to keep up the electric form that they have showed in the last couple of seasons.
The Reds have won each of their last four league meetings with Arsenal, and a fifth here would make history as the strongest winning streak in the fixture’s 129-year history. However, we simply can’t recommend such an eventuality given Liverpool’s relatively woeful form.
Back the Arsenal to bite back
Given the contrasting fortunes of these sides so far this season, we think the 6/4 price around a straight Arsenal win represents great value. However, we can boost that further by backing the Gunners in the win & BTTS market.
Arsenal are without a league clean sheet March and will likely concede again here, and it is that trend that somewhat informs our correct score prediction, a narrow yet entertaining 2-1 win for Arteta’s passionate Gunners.
Gabriel Jesus is worth a second look in the goalscorer markets, he is beginning to build up a head of steam in terms of scoring and now has three goals across his last four PL appearances, twice providing Arsenal’s second goal of the game during that run.
